Higher vocational education for health care workers: Support for further education and opportunities for career development

This project explores how employers facilitate further education for healthcare professionals, and to what extent higher vocational education leads to healthcare professionals receiving new tasks, roles and/or increased salaries.

Enhancing skills in the workplace is crucial for Norway's future labour market, and further education at a vocational college can be a suitable way for health professionals to increase their skills.

The project examines what is necessary to strengthen skills development, and what kind of limitations prevent health care workers from achieving this by attending to how employers facilitate further education for health care workers, and to what extent higher vocational education leads to health care workers taking on new tasks, roles and/or increased salaries.

New knowledge about the further education of health care workers will provide a basis for understanding how the health sector can increase skills and improve the division of tasks, as well as meet the high demand for competent labour in the health sector in the years to come.
